通过太阳城娱乐通识教育项目(PLS), you’ll learn to underst和 the world in diverse ways 和 to make vital connections across subjects.

PLS 课程 fall into two broad categories: 批判性思维课程 和 Perspective 课程. You are required to take eight PLS 课程 over four years — one course from each of the eight areas below — 和 your adviser will work with you to choose 课程 that match your interests.

批判性思维课程

批判性思维课程 are designed to help you cultivate the essential critical-thinking skills that you’ll use in every course at Clark 和 throughout your life. 你将在以下各领域选修一门课程:

  • 语言表达(VE)课程, placing special emphasis on the relationship between writing 和 critical thinking.
  • 形式分析(FA)课程,向你介绍形式化、符号化的分析方法.

方面的课程 introduce you to different ways of thinking, learning, 和 knowing in six disciplines. You will complete one course in each of the following areas, with each course taken in a different academic department:

  • 美学视角(AP)课程, 强调艺术表现和感知的, 分析, 审美形式的评价, with the goal of enhancing your appreciation 和 underst和ing of the arts.
  • 全球比较(GP)视角课程, introducing you to comparative 分析 through the exploration of diverse cultures, 政治制度, 或者经济结构. You’ll examine similarities 和 differences in a global context, 获得分析人类经验的工具.
  • 历史视角(HP)课程, developing your capacity to underst和 the 现在 in relation to the past. All 课程 are broad in scope 和 introduce you to the diverse ways scholars think about the past, 现在, 和未来的.
  • 语言和文化视角(LP)课程, fostering the study of language as an expression of culture. You will take a course highlighting the relationship between language 和 culture.
  • 自然科学视角(SP)课程, teaching the principal methods 和 results of the natural sciences. Courses include laboratories or similar components to introduce you to methods for observing natural phenomena 和 the experimental nature of scientific study.
  • 价值观透视(VP)课程检视人类生活的道德层面. Courses focus not only on the systematic formulation 和 分析 of moral 和 ethical claims, but also on how moral decisions affect both the individual 和 society.
